Cinco De Mayo – Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Margaritas

Cinco De Mayo is easily one of my favorite holidays. There is nothing I love more than a good margarita and once you throw tortilla chips and guacamole into the mix I’m sold. Cince De Mayo is also the perfect holiday to use as an excuse to have friends over. Nothing like some taco dip to get us over the midweek hump and set us sailing into Friday.

Margaritas are one of the easiest cocktails to make. There are only a few ingredients and they are easy to get right. Especially if you are like me and taste as you go along ; ) There is one component that makes all the difference though, FRESH fruit juice. Once you’ve tasted a margarita with fresh lime juice, there is just no going back. It may take a little extra work but it will be worth it! Between the squeezing of the limes and the shaking of the cocktail shaker, you can consider this your pre-celebration workout!

I love a classic margarita, but this year I decided to switch it up and try a spin on the classic. It took a little trial and error, although I assure you it wasn’t too painful, but I finally got it just right! See below for the recipe and tips for making a killer homemade margarita.

Fresh Squeezed Grapefruit Margaritas

* This recipe will yield 4 margaritas. You can easily cut the recipe in half if you are only making drinks for two! *

Tequila – 8 ounces

10-12 limes – 4 ounces of juice

1-2 grapefruit – 4 ounces of juice

Triple Sec – 4 ounces

Simple Syrup or Agave Nectar (optional) – 4 ounces

Salt or Sugar to rim the glasses

Keep in mind that it’s pretty hard to mess up a margarita. Feel free to taste as you go along and play around with the measurements. If you like your margaritas a little stronger you can go heavier on the tequila and put in less juice. Opposite is true if you aren’t a fan of the taste of tequila.

Now it’s time to celebrate!! Hope you have an amazing Cinco De Mayo!!
