Happy Sunday y’all!!
Sunday is such an important day of the week for me. I try my best to spend my Sundays recharging and getting my apartment (and my life) tidied up and ready for the coming week. I spent a good part of my morning talking to my mom about a book she has been reading called The Power. The Power, which is the sequel to the book The Secret, is all about the power of positivity and positive energy. Even before reading The Secret I was very aware of the power of positive thinking. I find that there are so many people who get caught up in the negatives in life and I see how it weighs them down. After reading The Secret it became even more clear to me that focusing on the negative things in your life will only bring a cycle of more negative energy. I found this quote a few years ago and it really impacted me. It has always been a favorite of mine and a quote that I have read dozens of times over the past few years.
An old Cherokee told his grandson “My son, there is a battle between two wolves inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, jealousy, greed, resentment, inferiority, lies, and ego. The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, empathy, and truth.”
The young boy thought about it, and asked, “Grandfather, which wolf wins?”
The old man quietly replied, “The one you feed.”
I shared it with my mom years ago and ever since she has had it framed on her desk at work. She says it is a constant reminder to check herself and her attitude about the day. It is a constant reminder that YOU are the master of your fate, the captain of your soul. You feed the wolf inside of you, wether it is the negativity you are feeding or the positivity, YOU are feeding that wolf.
The power of positivity relates to so many parts of your life, even your surroundings. Ever since I started working from home I have noticed how much my surroundings impact my mood and my day. When my office is dirty and I have mail piled up and things all over my desk it is so distracting. I spent some time this weekend cleaning out my office and getting my desk organized and decorated. I included some pictures below so that I could show you how to add a few inexpensive items that will make your desk so pretty you will forget how hard you are working : )
Whether you work at home or in a cubicle it is SO important to have a workspace that inspires you. I love to have flowers on my desk because they make me smile every time I look at them. My flower addiction was getting pretty expensive until I found these dried hydrangeas. They look like this once dried and will last forever. I love how feminine and pretty they make my work space look. The gold jars above are just tins from Ikea that I use to hold my makeup brushes and pens. They were $1.99 each and I spray painted them gold to match my decor. SO EASY and so pretty. Next on the list is spray painting my desk lamp from Ikea gold to match. I also just bought the gold skull from ZGallerie. I snagged it on sale because ZGallerie is having a huge sale until Tuesday. Even without the sale it is a great piece at a great price. You can find it here. I stacked it on some of my favorite books and I am loving the look.
Giving my desk a little inexpensive makeover really helped me to get back on track and inspire me. I hope you do something this week to inspire yourself. It can be framing a favorite quote and hanging it on the wall or even just buying yourself some flowers. Take some time to give yourself a little love and be thankful for the positive things going on in your life. Let all the positivity and goodness wash over you and get yourself ready for an amazing week.
